First Thoughts | Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet

15.1.15
r5

Rimmel have recently launched the Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet they come in four shades and today I'm sharing my first thoughts

I always find it hard when writing about lip stains because naturally I compare them to the Sephora ones (My favourite). I'm going to write this post and get straight to the point, let's start with the applicator - It's firm and fits your lips really well, which ideally should allow you to perfect that pout but not the case for me. I struggle with the texture, it's creamy and comforting on the lips and it doesn't feel drying. My issue is that the product is quite wet and doesn't mattify well, you can see from the pictures below. I find blotting your lips on a tissue is the quickest way for it to settle but even then it's not matte enough for me - I tend to apply, blot, re-apply and blot one last time. The colours are lovely but I did have to apply a few layers to get an even application, I found them a little streaky.  In terms of lasting on the lips, these sit well for a good few hours but if you were wearing them all day you would have to top it up for sure.

Atomic Rose

r3

A soft, peachy pink it's a little light for me but a perfect Summer shade.

Orange-Ology

r4

A vibrant orange based red, it bold & beautiful.

Burning Lava

r2

A deep red with a fuchsia base to it.

Meteoric Matte

r1

A gorgeous berry tone, perfect for A/W

I love the colours of the Apocalips and the feel of them on my lips. I just found them tricky to work with and not matte enough for Mouldy. I do think they are worth checking out, my favourite is definitely Meteoric Matte.

Available HERE

Have any of you checked these out? I'm so glad that more brands are bringing out matte lip stains, for a matte lip lover like myself I'm always eager to give them a go.

  4. Thank you for the swatches I have been wanting to check them out but now I know not too :) I like my matte lips perfectly matte. I would suggest MUA's Luxe velvet lip lacquer because they are actually matt, pigmented, last all day and I think they are cheaper as well. I have just done a blog post on it showing some swatches if you want to check them out.

  5. I felt the same way. The colors are gorgeous but whenever there is a product that goes on wet then is suppose to dry i always compare it to the stila lip stain..... just wasnt a winner for me. :/
