2014 Beauty Favourites - The Low Down!
If you follow me on social media you will know yesterday I was really upset because I lost all the footage I had pre-filmed for my 2014 beauty favourites video. I was so frustrated because I had intended to edit and upload for this weekend.
I tried to re-film here in Dubai but let’s just say that was another fail, with all that aside I took to Facebook and asked if you would still want to see a 2014 Beauty Favourites when I get back to London (mid-month) the majority said yes, so I guess mine will be a little later than the rest. Nevertheless I decided I still wanted to start the year on MouldyFruit, recapping on some of my favourites from the year - So I present to you ‘2014 Beauty Favourites, The Low Down' (Minus the video!).
If you’ve been a frequent follower you will know how much I love the Shu Uemura Stage Performer Instant Glow Radiance Perfecting Cream, god it always takes me so long to type that! It’s a gorgeous primer that my skin really loves but it’s not always as easy to get hold of. This year I discovered the NARS Radiance Enhancing Primer and I have to say it’s very similar, the texture is creamy and it feels comforting on the skin. When you blend in the product it gives you a gorgeous, golden glow and it prolongs the wear of my foundation throughout the day.
Despite trying various foundations throughout the year the two that stood out to me in 2014 are ones that I have used on and off for quite some while. First up, Kevyn now this little pot of wonder really is an amazing product, the consistency is rich and it requires some practice before really perfecting the application. There are so many ways to use this product but as far as coverage goes it doesn’t get much better than this!
This product is like a magic wand, I’ve used it so much throughout 2014 for adding brightness underneath my eyes. Brush it on, bend it in et voila bright eyes! There was a time in 2014 that I would use this as my concealer but now looking back my dark circles must have been lesser than they are currently because at present I apply this prior to my concealer for that highlighted under eye look.
It’s been a year of bad bags and I fully accept that, this has been the best product at truly hiding those panda eyes. There is no doubt that the consistency is thick but once you warm a little on the back of your hand and proceed to press the product into the under eye area with your fingers it’s perfect. The coverage is incredible and if it's applied correctly this doesn’t cake or crease under the eyes.
Oh Ben Nye Banana what an awesome product you have been during 2014, this was the year I really put Banana Powder to good use and I can safely say I’ve used it pretty much everyday. The yellow powder is great for really helping to balance out the tone in my skin, it works wonders at reducing redness and the powder is so finely milled that it doesn’t feel heavy on my face.
Before this year I was through and through a Casino kind of girl, then came Laguna and I have to say we’ve had a wail of a time in 2014. It’s hard finding bronzers that don’t make me look muddy and this is gorgeous on my skin. It’s really buildable and gives me enough of a golden glow without looking too overly bronzed or contoured.
I’m going to keep it short and sweet with blush, when this blusher first landed on my desk I never thought it would become my GO-TO blusher of the year. First of all it’s pink? I used to love pink blushers but now I find them just too obvious on my complexion. Pink Sprinkles just looks GORGEOUS on the skin, it gives my cheeks the ultimate pop of colour, it’s just so pretty and I haven't put it down since I got it!
This was a relatively late discovery of 2014, but I already know it’s going to be consistently used for quite a while. I adore it, it’s such a beautiful highlight and looks stunning on the tops of my cheekbones. It’s not overly shimmery which is another thing I love about Mary-Lou!
Such a fab discovery of 2014 and a great dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz (my go-to for brows in 2013). I love how fine the pencil is, it allows you to precisely create hair strokes without looking to overly obvious. I use the shade Hot Chocolate which works perfectly with my brows.
Laura Mercier’s Eye Basic, is often described as the foundation for eyes and that it is. It’s a fabulous base which is creamy in consistency but dries to a matte finish. It’s ideal for priming the lids before the application of eye shadow, it prevents creasing and increases the longevity of your shadows.
It has definitely been the year of palettes for me and the Smashbox Full Exposure has been my partner in crime throughout 2014. It’s the ideal palette for creating, soft or smokey looks. This palette has the perfect balance of shimmer vs. matte and is pretty much all I need!
When I first used this product I didn’t like it, months later I’m a complete convert. It’s one of the best gel liners I’ve used because the consistency is way more fluid than any other, it really allows you to take time in creating your flick. It’s an intense black and lasts on my overly watery eyes for hours. Delilah’s one to to watch in 2015!
Even though I discovered this late in 2014, I instantly fell in love with it and know it’s one that I will forever purchase because it’s impressed me that much. It’s so hard finding a pencil that lasts in my waterline but this one is amazing and it’s probably the blackest of black!
Now this mascara has been my holy grail this year and as soon as I tried it I knew it was HG status. It’s one of those mascaras I instantly liked, it gives you such great length, volume & curl - it really is the whole package. The ultra black is definitely my new bestie, it’s even more intense than before!
