Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner - Worth the hype?

3.7.14

I am SURE many of you have seen reviews all over the internet on Benefit's latest eyeliner. The marketing campaign for this product was MAJOR but does it really live up to the hype?

NOW you ALL know how much I love eyeliner - most of the time I'm donning a full on feline flick! I'm all about finding the best one out there and l'm pretty critical in the process (haha! yes it's dramatic as that!)

The requirements
  • It has to be long lasting and to a certain extent waterproof - I'm not one to touch up my make up during the day so it needs to stay put and stand the longevity of the day. Also my eyes are forever watering so it's easy for liner to wear away in the inner corners of my eyes.
  • It has to be BLACK - I mean black, not 50 shades of grey and almost there but JET BLACK! Intense, bold & striking - Trust me I can notice the difference instantly.
  • The consistency must to be easy to work with, smooth with the ability to glide on effortlessly. I don't like liners that dry too quick making it difficult to adjust your line.
  • The applicator (if relevant) has to be on point! Applicators make all the difference, whether you want a simple line or a feisty flick it has to be able to give you the effect you desire.

With all that in mind I was EAGER to give the Benefit a go because of all the internet hype surrounding it, in ALL honesty? I don't like it, it doesn't work for me. I've had it for almost two months now and I keep going back to try it but each time I've tried it's been an (Insert Hashtag)

#EPICFAIL

The idea is that you twist the bottom of the pen applicator and a gel like formula comes out of an angled rubber nib. Firstly I feel like I'm twisting for ages and nothing comes out, then all of a sudden too much oozes out and it's just a mess. The nib is meant to 'hug your lashes' and allow you to effortlessly apply liner. Personally, I find the nib drags along my skin and doesn't allow for easy nor smooth application.

One thing I will say is that it is an intense black but I hate the way the product dries, making it near impossible to adjust your liner. I also finds this liner flakes on the eyes within an hour of wear - LINER PET PEEVE!

This latest liner is meant to be a fool proof product, for those who find perfecting a flick a little daunting. For someone who has worn liner daily for the last 8 years or so this is NOT an easy product to work with!

Sorry Benefit you just didn't do it for me!

Will any of you be trying this? You can check out the Push Up liner HERE, should you wish to!

  4. I agree with your review. So much hype on this product. I applied it on someone for a nice wonky line that refused to budge. I tried it on myself and yay for crooked wings. *eyeroll* I'm sitting at work embarrassed right now, but couldn't redo my entire face. Sigh...
